A character arc is a transformation, or inner journey, of a character over the course of a story (told through a PS). The character (mentally) begins as one kind of person and gradually transforms into a different kind of person through their experiences.
Early in 2017, a gift arrived in the post. In the box were two amazing knives, a note, and an envelope with a letter written on a gold card:

Here’s the note:

But it’s the letter that touched Anita and me deeply.
I’ve blurred out the name to respect this person’s privacy, and because this was only meant for our eyes. I’m only sharing it here to demonstrate an important point:

This person was attracted into our sphere of influence, and as a result, had a transformational experience:
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without your material! Consider me a client for life.”
Building your Sphere of Influence is freakin’ powerful shit, and worth doing well because it allows you to serve the audience you’re trying to reach.
To create a genuine shift in their world for the better.
Think about the “character arcs” (transformations) you want your POP to go through:
- What are their desires (clear visible outer goal)?
- What internal limiting beliefs are holding them back (inner arc)?
- What experiences can you give them that will move them closer to you, and the solution to their problems?
Solving problems for your POP is less about giving them all the answers (here’s how to get from A to Z), and more about helping them break through mental barriers.
… and then helping them move from A to B, then B to C, etc. That’s where the value is.
Even if someone never makes it to “Z” (for whatever reason they only reach J), you’re still credited with helping get those results.
And building out a Sphere of Influence is a way of helping the people you want to matter to, be ATTRACTED to you, so you can genuinely help them “level up” and progress and move closer to their desired goal(s).
We’re almost at the end now, so let’s keep going…
